Professor Song, Asia Kodaly Symposium, Music Educator

Yutao Song is an associate professor at the Institute of Music Education of the Central Conservatory of Music where she heads the Musicianship Section and advises master level students. She is also the principal conductor of the institute’s choral ensemble, which under her direction has performed nationwide and in several Beijing Music Festivals.

At the Institute, she teaches courses in sight singing, audiation, choir building, and choral conducting; incorporating Professor Jianjin Gao’s New System into her curriculum.

Inspired by the music pedagogy of Zoltan Kodaly, she is developing a musicianship curriculum based on Chinese music culture according to the principles of the New System which has been well-received by students and professors alike.

Her online class “Sight Singing, Audiation, and Movement Training Based on Chinese Music Culture in the New System” also went active in Spring 2015.

Since 2015, she has been participating in the Ministry of Education’s revisionary work of the national high school music curriculum by providing empirical teaching examples and experience.
