The performance is part of the week-long Singapore Writers' Festival festivities. SCS is honoured by the invitation from the Singapore Press Holdings to premiere 4 choral works written by four Singaporean composers set to poetry by Singaporean writers. Singers will get a rare opportunity to meet with some of the composers of these works as well as engage with basic theatre/movement work.
Due to potential use of theatrical elements in the production, memorisation of the work is necessary.
Schola Cantorum Singapore (SCS) was established in 2015 as a choral collective of singers to provide choral enthusiasts with an open, educational outlook to music and singing, seeking to nurture the next generation of professional musicians, music educators and music lovers.
The SCS Festival Chorus is the community project-based choir arm of SCS. The SCS Festival Chorus first began as the chorus for the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour in 2017 together with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (Singapore).
We have begun preparations for the project and Festival Chorus members are called to join us, fulfilling the mandatory rehearsal requirement listed in this document.
Participation in performance is a privilege based on (but not limited to) assessments of attendance, ability, attitude (e.g. team player) & awareness.
Members are encouraged to attend more rehearsals than the mandatory as ideally, all 4 works are to be memorised to facilitate staging work. At least 2 of the 4 works have been confirmed as needing memorisation. Some basic staging and movement are required for this performance.
Please refer to the schedule further down on this page. Members with exceptional circumstances will be considered for inclusion on a case-by-case basis.
All members are to ensure that they have the necessary uniform as per the expected dress code. This information will be provided upon acceptance into SCS.
Members are also to respect copyright and ensure that music performed for the project are not to be shared without prior permission. If you have any inquiries about the music, do feel free to contact the KAM team or the Choir Manager.
