What is the Kodaly Concept?
Named after Hungarian composer-pedagogue, Zoltán Kodály, the Kodály Concept is a singing-based approach to music education, a structured and systematic way of learning, studying and performing of music.

Apart from music literacy, ear & solfege training, curriculum planning and inculcating good taste in music, the on-going development of this approach has in recent years, embraced the use of music games, improvisation, movement and even visual arts stemming from the work of Kodaly's students such as Katalin Forrai and Klára Kokas.

The singing-based approach of the Kodaly Concept, while commonly associated with classroom teaching is highly relevant and readily applicable to choir conductors seeking to improve their professional conducting work, music pedagogy and choral programme with amateur adult or children's choirs. Conductors of instrumental ensembles will find workshops on rehearsal technique, rehearsal planning etc. readily applicable to their work. Likewise, music classroom teachers will find the exposure to quality choral repertoire, choral training and direction useful in uplifting their music classrooms to the next level of musicianship.
Who is teaching at the AKS?
A panel of speakers from various countries will be sharing their best practices at the AKS! Prof. László Nemes will also be giving a special musicianship training over 5 days (add-on to AKS registration). Do check out our speakers' biographies!
Do I need to be "Kodaly-Trained" to attend AKS?
No prior Kodály training necessary. All you need is an open mind and a good internet connection to participate in this first ever Virtual AKS!
Who should attend the symposium?
Any musician or music-educator seeking professional development! Regardless of the age group you are teaching, be it pre-school or university, the Kodaly Concept and tools are readily applicable at all levels of teaching,

The symposium will also be an invaluable learning experience for music students and young conductors who are starting professional work in teaching/conducting amateur singers and are hoping to meet and build a network of like-minded colleagues and friends.
When will online registrations end?
Register before 31 July 2020 to take advantage of our early bird pricing! Registrations will end 14 August 2020 (Fri) 23:30pm.
What is included in the AKS registration?
The 50SGD AKS Ticket gives you access to AKS 2020 events such as lectures, masterclasses, roundtable discussions etc..

N.B. Musicianship Track is a developmental 5 X 1.5hrs course with Prof. László Nemes, exclusive, limited availability ADD-ON for AKS delegates. i.e. The 150SGD ticket price includes access to both AKS AND the Musicianship Course. Musicianship is currently not available as a standalone.

N.B. Accommodations, transportation, meals, wifi and other ad-hoc costs are not included in delegate fees.

I just want to attend musicianship training. Is it available as a standalone?

You must register as a AKS Delegate and pay an additional fee for the musicianship training. Payment for both AKS Registration and musicianship track can be done together. We regret that Musicianship Track is currently not available as a standalone.
I live in another country. Can I still do your course?
Yes you can! The beauty of the virtual AKS is that as long as you have internet access, you can attend the AKS from anywhere in the world!
What are the costs of delegate registration?
AKS (subsidised ticket): 50SGD (up till 9 August 2020, 23:30hrs) - This gives access to all the lectures (excluding Musicianship Track)

(Add-on) Musicianship Track + AKS: 150SGD
This gives access to all the AKS sessions and the special musicianship course with Prof. László Nemes. Musicianship is not available as a standalone and 150SGD is inclusive of both AKS + Musicianship.

I am an enthusiastic music student but might need financial aid. What should I do?
KAM’s Mission:

Students requiring sponsorship may write in to us via enquiries@kam.sg with the heading “AKS Student Sponsorship”. Your email must reach us before 2 August 2020 (Sunday) 23:59hrs, and should include:
  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  2. A one-page letter of intent, stating what you are currently studying, how this symposium may be beneficial to you and how you will contribute to the Arts community in the future.
  3. Please include in your CV, contact details of 2 referees who can comment on your situation and music work ethic.
Successful applicants will notified before 9 August 2020 via email.
How do I make payment?
Payment via PayNow, Bank Transfer, Credit/Debit card and PayPal are available.

For delegates with a Singaporean account, PayNow (UEN: 53252812C) and bank transfers are preferred. Due to high volume, please give our staff up to 3 working days to check and process your payment.

Credit / Debit Card or PayPal (please select the Pay With "Credit/Debit Card or PayPal" for access to credit card payment). Recommended for overseas delegates.

Payment by Telegraphic Bank Transfers is also possible but all bank fees (if any) will have to be borne by the delegate. If you are intending to make payment by bank transfer, please ensure that the necessary details such as your name and/or transaction numbers are recorded to enable record tracing. KAM will approve and confirm your registration upon successful receipt of payment. We reserve the right to entry until payment is made in full.

I did not receive the links to the AKS sessions! Help!

I cannot access the sessions as I am not sent the meeting ID & password! Help!
You do not need these to login. Please click on the unique URL (or copy and paste it into your browser) given to you please! Do ensure you have installed the necessary apps on your device.
Can I employ the National Arts Council Singapore CDSA Grants for my attendance at AKS? (UPDATED 17 August 2020)
Yes you can!

  1. Eligible Singaporean participants can apply for the National Arts Council CDSA Grant here. Do check out the CDSA Enhanced Guidelines here. Application and Budget Forms can be downloaded from the NAC website. Please refer to the CDSA guidelines above for more information and email your application and/or enquiries to cdsa@nac.gov.sg. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS 14 September 2020 (5pm).
  2. Participants who attended the Studiorum Series may also use those hours towards the CDSA Grants.
  3. A copy of your attendance at the AKS and Studiorum Series will be sent to you upon request after AKS.
  4. Please note that only sessions that you attend ‘live’ in person may count towards your CDSA application.
Can watching videos be counted towards the CDSA Grants?
Even though we will have records of who are accessing the videos, due to privacy - technological issues, watching catch-up videos cannot count towards your CDSA grants unless you are personally "able to provide supporting documents to prove the duration of your access to the video". Kindly direct enquiries to NAC if you have further questions.
What happens if I'm unable to attend due to e.g. work, living in a different timezone or a runny nose?
All sessions will be recorded and upon request, we will provide these (for a limited time period availability). Meanwhile, we are wishing you good health!
How can I access the catch-up videos?
Recordings will be processed and shared upon request after AKS is over. More details will follow!
Will there be proof or certificates for my participation in the AKS?
Attendance will be taken at all sessions and traditionally, a certificate of study that states your participation in the Event, issued by the Kodaly Academy of Music and the Kodaly Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, can mailed to delegates upon request for a small fee. In general, delegates who wish to receive certificates must record proof of attendance at masterclasses and fulfil the minimum 80% attendance requirement in order to be deemed as having successfully completed the Event.
Terms and Conditions
IMPORTANT
While KAM does its utmost to run the Event as announced, changes in the program and schedule may occur and do not entitle members to a fee reduction or refund. KAM shall not be liable for any failure of or delay in the changes or cancellation of Event for the period that such failure or delay is due to causes beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, war, strikes or labor disputes, embargoes, government orders or any other force majeure event. KAM cannot be held liable for any damages and expenses incurred by individuals or any parties associated with this event. KAM recommends that you arrange for insurance.

Do note that photos, videos and various forms of media recordings will be taken at any point in time and may be used for KAM's marketing purposes across all communications channels. By registering, you agree to give KAM permission to do so at no cost.

CHANGES TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The KAM website contains the most up-to-date information available and members/choristers are highly encouraged to continue visiting the site for the latest information. KAM reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time and do so by posting the updated terms on the KAM website. Your decision to continue participation after such changes have been made constitutes your formal acceptance of the new Terms of Service.
Cancellation Policy
In the event of cancellation of your registration, please be sure to notify KAM via email at enquiries(at)kam.sg with a reference to a bank account, including the SWIFT Code and IBAN (International Bank Account Number), where a possible refund may be remitted to. A cancellation fee will be charged based on the date the cancellation received by KAM, as follows:
  1. 90 days before the Event – 20% of the registration fee
  2. 60 days before the Event – 50% of the registration fee
  3. 30 days before the Event – 100% of the registration fee (no refund)

There will be no refunds for no-shows, late arrivals, early departures or unused entry tickets. Any refunds will be processed after the Symposium (N.B. Administrative charges will be deducted from the amount to be refunded) has ended. Due to the scale of our Event, kindly give ca. 30 days for us to process.
